Banshee Information - Daniel
Westwood Underground (Wow! - they seem to be getting a lot of exclusive WW info at the moment!) got this info about the NOD Banshee:
Alien Craft Prototype (Banshee): Developed by Nod using information from the Tacitus and parts from alien craft wreckage the Banshee is an aerial heavy hitter. The alien craft is sleek, fast and heavily armored. It fires a plasma ball capable of rendering most units and buildings to ash. The Banshee when used for aerial support can assure victory even in the most dire situations.
That Plasma Ball sounds cool! I expect we'll be getting more unit info from WW Underground soon...:)
IGN Preview - Daniel
IGN have a new TS preview with lots more info and some good news in it, here is a short sample:
"We recently got our chance to head on over to Westwood's headquarters in Las Vegas and take a look at the continuing progress on the sequel to Command & Conquer, Tiberian Sun. Even though the title has been delayed, things are looking pretty solid now and it seems obvious that the developers will make their July ship date this time around. While it's still far too early to tell how well the game will play, we did make it out with a heaping helping of art, screenshots and even a couple of movies. More importantly, we had the developers sit down with us and detail the units and buildings that will be included in the finished game."
Read the rest here.
Weed Eater Info - Daniel
Westwood Underground got this info straight from Westwood:
"The 'Weed Eater' is a smaller version of the Tiberium Harvester with a reinforced blade mechanism attached to the front of the vehicle. This blade mechanism is what allow the 'Weed Eater' to mulch the very tough Tiberium veins. Once the vehicle passes through an area the veins are mulched into a fine pulp. This pulp is sucked up into a containment tank. When full the 'Weed Eater' the returns to the waste facility where it drops off this pulp. It's to Nod's advantage to utilize these as the pulp is needed to create the devastating Chemical Missile."
This information has been added into the units section along with the recently discovered Mech information.

Tank Rushes - Daniel
A common strategy in RTS games is to build lots of units such as tanks, and 'rush' them all at once towards the enemy base. Of course, if this is the only strategy people use then the games would be rather boring, so developers try to make this less advantageous to do. Here is an idea Calum Nicholson had about how to prevent tank-rushes:
"Hi Lionel, I've just come up with an idea that could solve the tank rush once and for all! How about this; when there are a large number of vehicles travelling close together, a feature in the game could make this cause deep mud from the churned up ground! this could slow all the units to a snails pace, which would leave them open to being easily picked off, thereby discouraging people from using the tank rush. what do you think? I would appreciate it if you could forward this to Westwood if you think it might work, or post it on your TS site."
Thanks to TS Center for this info. I think it's too late to include this cool feature in Tiberian Sun, but maybe they will use it in the add-on pack or in C&C3: Tiberian Twilight!
Erik Yeo - Daniel
PC Fan have had a chat with Erik to help clear things up about his leaving of Westwood to start his own company, 7 Studios. Here is what is happening:
  • Erik let his bosses at Westwood know his plans to leave after Tiberian Sun was completed. In turn, he was told to just "leave now" siting that it wouldn't be in Westwood's best interest to have a soon-to-be ex-employee running around (knowing all their secrets). This is a common business practice and both parties parted ways on a positive note. Tiberian Sun is being balanced and tested now so Erik's exodus shouldn't hinder the release date at all.
  • 7 Studios, Erik Yeo and Lewis Peterson's new company won't be at E3. They're fiddling around with games they'd like to make - nothing concrete as of yet. According to Erik, the publishers they've spoken to so far have said nothing but positive things, so look for them to lay low for a few months before any game or publishing announcements are made.
Daily Dementia Info - Daniel
As you may know, Rade was recently interviewed on the internet talk show, Daily Dementia. Unfortunately not many questions were answered due to a power failure in their office, here is one of the questions he managed to answer:
Interviewer: Now, everybody loves internet play these days. Will the game support it?
Rade: Yeah, 6 player internet is what we're at now. We were originally looking at 4 but we got it up to 6, so we'll have that with Westwood Online... Plus you could build battle clans with a bunch of your friends, choose like a little flag that you guys will have and you'll be ranked as a clan... you're collective ranking will listed on our(Westwood's) website...
E3 Getting Closer... - Daniel
Westwood are going to be displaying the following games at the E3 Trade Show:
  • Nox
  • Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun
  • Command & Conquer: Commando (possibly)
  • Swords & Sorcery
  • Dune 2000 (PSX)
  • Command & Conquer 64 (N64)
Well, that'll be Tiberian Sun's second annual showing at E3, and this year it will be released! Expect lots of screenshots and more info coming soon...
Tiberian Sun Add-on - Daniel
TiberiumSun.com have posted a bit more of their chat with Adam, in which he says the following about new features in TS
Warmaker: Do you have any plans to add extra "features" to the game, that say wouldn't have appeared in TS if Erik hadn't left? Or won't their be a difference?
Adam: The only thing that I've done is to move existing abilities to other structures/units or change the basic attributes of the untis, or the build order, etc. I don't think there's anything in the game that wouldn't have been there if Erik had stayed. There's no time for any new features at this point, so we're going to save all of the ones we've had recently for the add-on.
Adam Isgreen Info - Daniel
TiberiumSun.com had a chat with Adam, the new lead designer of TS, about himself. Here is one of the questions:
Warmaker: I'm guessing that you guys at the Westwood offices occasionally bring out a RTS game, just to see what their like, see what's fun and what's not etc. I was wondering if there's a current favorite at the moment, or is it just a bit of everything?
Adam: We play just about every RTS game that comes out. I found that Starcraft and the Brood-war add-on are the best (imo) of the newer RTS's out. Our current favorite at the office is... Tiberian Sun! As the game balance becomes tighter, we're having a tremendous amount of fun with it. We know it's getting good when people from other projects just start "showing up" to watch us as we play.
Check out TiberiumSun.com for the rest of the log.
Free Email Accounts Disallowed - Daniel
When signing up for Westwood Chat, you can no longer use free email addresses from services such as Yahoo! and Hotmail. This is to cut down on cheating and prevent users from having too many Westwood Online accounts. Thanks to TiberianSun.net.nz for getting this information from Virtual Ted.
Erik Yeo Chat - Daniel
BG:TS have had a short chat with ex-lead-designer of Tiberain Sun, Erik Yeo:
Encoded: I have gota ask this less andreas kill me.... Are the recently announced names for the light mech ('Wolverine') and the medium mech (Titan) correct?
Erik: They were when I left. :) I especially like "Wolverine". It's really fitting for how the unit works.

Encoded: cool. About the mammoth m2, is it a four legged mech, just not the 4 legged mech from the side bar (the voxel test...)?
Erik: I'll leave that to WW to determine whether or not they want to talk about it.

Adam Isgreen Chat - Daniel
Well, we're gonna have an edited chat log with the new lead designer of TS up as soon as possible, in the mean time, here is TS Center's Chat Log. I haven't looked at the whole chat yet, but here is one of the questions:
CaptIgor: Is there going to be bases off mode, capture the flag (ctf) mode, what will the difficulty settings be, and what about allieing in multiplay?
Adam: Difficult will affect the AI and the cost / build rate of your units. The AI will have many levels of difficulty. God help you if you put it on the hardest. Two AIs destroyed me in multi last night -- I had no chance.

Westwood Talks - Alex
Here is a very interesting piece I found at the Daily Dementia cruising the web:
Coming Up On Friday (04/23/99)
Get ready for Tiberian Sun -- On Friday we'll be talking with Westwood about the game, and the recent departures of Erik Yeo and Lewis Peterson. Yet, mostly importantly, about the game!
The DailyDementia is an audio talk show with various guests. We will have our special reporting of the talk up right after the release of the show tomorrow.
Isgreen Chat - Alex
Adam Isgreen will be chatting with selected Webmasters for one hour. We will have a summary of the chat log up ASAP.
Interviews, Interviews - Alex
VT, Rade and Adam Isgreen answered a lot of questions in the recent past. Here is a summary of what they said:

  • There will be about one hour of Full Motion Video in the game.
  • There will be another last game in the C&C Trilogy, Tiberian Twilight
  • The game will be released on two CDs, from which only one is required per network player so you have to buy it only once to play with one friend, and on DVD.
  • Adam is taking over what is left in finishing the game: Balancing units and Multiplayer. He would not change much compared to what Erik Yeo did.
  • "So far, it looks good." That's what Adam said about the going gold in May and release in June.
  • When buildings explode, the parts will be flying around.
