Over 20 New Shots! - Daniel
Westwood Underground has posted loads of new in-game screenshots. Out of the 42 which they have posted, around 20 of them are new, starting at about number 20. Check them out here.
"A day or two before..." - Daniel
Kane7345 from TS Nation had a short chat with Tim-WS, who claims to work with Virtual Ted:
Kane7345: When is tiberian sun coming out for the people who preordered it cause some people say the 24th while others say the 27th 4 everybody?
Tim-WS: Here is how it works. Most stores will be ABLE to sell on the 27th. If, however, a store decides to spend gobs of mony to ship their shippment overnight, they MIGHT be able to sell a day or two before...
Well that's great news! (for a lot of people). Head over to TS Nation for the rest.
WOL Tech Support Room - Daniel
Ramrac of RSN noticed that Westwood have added an Official Tech Support channel to Westwood Online. I hope this doesn't mean they're expecting lots of problems with TS!
Platinum Edition - Daniel
Sociopath from BG:TS phoned up EA Customer Service and they told him that if he has already pre-ordered TS, he will receive the Platinum Edition, along with the extra soundtrack. Great news! Does that mean the 50,000 Platinum edition copies haven't all been ordered yet? Maybe.
TS in Australia - Daniel
TS Nation has posted an article entitled, 'The Westwood Environment' (It's favorable this time!). Here's an excerpt:
Westwood Studios is quite a magical place, away fromt he shiny lights of the DisneyLand for Adults (casinos) and the bustle of traffic up and down the Vegas strip. Full of comical and not to mention friendly people its walls echo with good spirits and great stories. Picture a job that you could wear anything you wanted, provided it was decent, and do what you wanted just so long as you got the work done.
You can read the rest of the article at TS Nation.
TS in Australia - Daniel
TSNNZ posted this e-mail from Honkie:
I saw the large TS signage go up this morning at the computer game store downstairs from work today and went in to ask them when TS would be available.
I was told that they had called to put in their order today with their suppliers and that TS would be on sale on the 25th of August for A$75 or something (can't remember exactly but around there).
I asked him about whether they would be the premium edition but he had no idea.
Store is PC Genie in Sydney CDB!
Well, the official date is still Aug 27th, but it does look like some stores around the world will be getting it on the 25th.

Westwood Online TS Chat Room - Daniel
The Official Westwood Chat Tiberian Sun chat room has now opened, in preperation for the release. You can't play the game until you get the CD of course, which is very soon now. You can sign-up for and download Westwood Chat here.
Early TS Release? - Daniel
B.Sparks sent this e-mail to TSNNZ:
I was flipping through the pages of the latest issue of CGW, and something got my attention. On page 68 there was a preview of TS and they said, "The grandaddy of the RTS genre is expected to be reborn hard later this month (August 23.)" Was this an error? Or is Westwood planning a "sneak attack?"
Does this mean Westwood are planning to release Tiberian Sun a few days before August 27th? Let's hope so!

Harsh Westwood Review - Daniel
This review is written by NGN Network and is about Westwood's poor quality of service. Here's an excerpt:
It all began during the 1997 Christmas Season. Westwood Studios was one of the largest companies in the Real Time Strategy genre, having developed and released such classics as Dune 2, Command & Conquer, and Red Alert. They thought they could hide behind their name...were they ever wrong!
Of course, I totally disagree with all of this. Westwood are a brilliant company in my opinion.
"Limitations" - Daniel
BG:TS have another new articles. It's written by AyZiAnBoY, titled Limitations. Here's an excerpt:
No matter what new features are present or how revolutionized gaming becomes, there will always be limitations. Whether these limitations are due to how the game was made or caused by someone else's choice, they're always present. Such limitations are evident in Red Alert editing (Using RA Mixer, the universal conversion tool for RA).

New Preview - Daniel
Well, someone has written yet another TS preview. This time it's at Glide Underground. Here's an exerpt:
Ah, Command & Conquer. Who would have guessed telling little tanks to shoot each other would be so much fun? This classic game by Westwood Studios proved to be one of the best RTS games ever, setting a new standard for the genre. In 1996, WW released the "prequel", Red Alert, which was, needless to say, evolutionary rather then revolutionary. It was tons of fun but not a big step over the original. The biggest problem with RA was the balance. The word "tank rush" has become a dreaded word for RTS fans ever since, as this pathetic tactic easily beat the most carefully planned strategy in RA. Well, up next is part 3 in the Tiberian Saga: C&C Tiberian Sun. Here's a look a what's to come in this highly anticipated (and very late) sequel to the original.
Allies and the GDI - Daniel
BG:TS noticed this on a Drop Pod in one of the TS screenshots:
Allied Logo!
It's an Allied logo from Red Alert, isn't it? Hmmm, what could this be? Something Westwood aren't telling us about the connection between Red Alert and Tiberian Sun?
GENCON Review - Daniel
TiberiumSun.com have written a review about the TS Tournament at GENCON '99. Here's an excerpt:
You can pump out units FAST! You can also lay down buildings quickly. That meant that the units were fairly small so not too much detail was visible. Since the tournament games were only 15 minutes long (they did give us a "to the death" match for finals though). As far as I could tell, making three war factories (or barracks, etc) will improve your unit building rate. Also, the ability to queue up to 5 units in your barracks and 5 in your war factory was very nice.
Actually, Westwood have said that only two war factories will improve building speed. If you want to build a second one somewhere else, you may as well sell one of the others. Only two are needed unless you want more at strategic positions.
Westwood Online Upgrade - Daniel
Westwood Online are upgrading their internet hardware in preperation for Tiberian Sun! The service won't be working for a short time on Tuesday morning at about 9:30 PST. This is because a lot of people will be playing Tiberian Sun on-line in a few weeks.

Duke sent this image to Warmaker of TiberiumSun.com. It is from a Gamestar magazine. Notice the release date, August 26th. That must be the German date. Also, it says, "It was worth the wait". Hehe :)

"Can I Have the Stand?" - Daniel
[e-3n] of BG:TS asked this question at his local EB World:
[e-3n]: When Tiberian Sun is released, can I have the Tiberian Sun display stand and the 'Coming Soon' Boxes?
Store Manager: Well, sometimes they request them back, but most of the time we just toss them in the dumpster. If you like I can take down your name and number and I'll call you if it's avaliable.
Two interesting observations - Daniel
BG:TS have posted these two images:
As you can see, this shows some blue tiberium, which seems to look exactly the same as green, except of course, for the color.
This one shows the sidebar with seven buttons per column! Maybe it's a high resolution version?
"Already got a few shipments" - Daniel
Dawg from Strategic Gaming Network asked the manager of his local Babbages a question:
Dawg: Do you know when you will be getting Tiberian Sun in?
General Manager: We are supposed to get it the 25th and release it the 27th. We have already got a few shipments of it though.

Dawg: Can I see? Just to see it? Not buy it.
GM: Sorry, I can't let you do that.

They've already got a few shipments? With more than two weeks to go. Why can't they sell it then???
Gamespot Hands-on Preview - Daniel
Gamespot UK have written a hands-on preview of Tiberian Sun with 9 new screenshots!
Tiberian Sun certainly looks like it's going to hit the mark. We managed to play well into the single player game as well as playing some cracking multiplayer matches, where all of the new units become available. Tiberian Sun looks likely to succeed not because it offers anything radically new (and some people will criticise it for this no doubt), but because it vastly enhances one of the best games of all time. And it's a damn fine, totally addictive title to play in its own right. Now, I reckon I need more power plants for that Firestorm Defence...
GENCON Review - Daniel
C&C Domain have written a short review of Tiberian Sun after playing it at GENCON '99. The guy says that GDI might be better than Nod in multiplay!
Community News - Daniel
  • TiberiumSun.com is back up!
  • Tiberian Explosion (this site) will be getting its new host very soon, I hope!

"Stolen" Copies - Daniel
You may think this is good or bad news, but personally I think it's bad. Somebody (who wishes to remain anonymous) has contacted me with this information. It may be completely false, as it isn't a very reputable source, but you never know:
After tomorrow i will have TS :)))))
And it will be stolen (in gold)
Pirates will make it here a serie and i will buy it on wednesday for 5$ :))))
That's easy :)

How will they get it?
While delivering to the factory
It is not stolen it is "stolen" (copied from gold and someonewas bribed ...)

Why are you doing this?
I'm only spreading the information ......
It's simple ---- i will get a free copy ...

Where can you get it?
U r going to the center of the city and finding the man
He has lot's of cd's with software ... [in] Odessa [Ukraine]

So there you go. It looks like even with Westwood and EA's precautions some piracy has managed to take place, if this is true at all. The person is going to send me proof of it once he/she has obtained the game. Please do not buy pirate games as they cost the industry $billions and reduce the chances of better games being produced, or that's what authorities say. So we don't want to encourage this, ok?
New Screenshots - Daniel
First, we have 16 NEW screenshots from Gamezone. Here are six of them:

Here are some interesting things, spotted by TS Center:
  • In the first shot, there are some search lights, or destination markers, or something, coming from, or going to, a GDI guard tower.
  • And in the second image, you can see Oxanna Kristoss, the head of the Nod propoganda, with Commander Slavik.
  • That's Vega and Umagaan in the two cutscenes.
  • The fifth one shows some Devil's Tongues burning a GDI consturction yard to the ground!
  • And finally, that's the EMP Cannon. Looks pretty good!
And here are two more new cutscene pics, from TS Galaxy, who got them from the preview event in Germany:
Mammoth Mark II
Disk Throwers
I'm not sure if that first one is new. But at the site they have versions of these from 800x600 up to 4096x3072!!! Ideal for desktop wallpapers, if you've got a HUGE monitor! Click here to download.
TS in the UK - Free Watch at HMV! - Daniel
I went up to Edinburgh, Scotland today and in Virgin, HMV, Dixons, Game and Electronic Boutique, they all said the release date was August 27th, and you could reserve a copy in all but Dixons. So the date is the same in the UK. But you already knew that! However, in HMV I noticed something cool. On the poster thay had up, it said "Free Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun watch with every reserved copy", or something like that. Anyway, it can't be the same watch as those 30 they were giving away in Sweden, because they were worth $60! Reserving a copy at HMV is only a £5 deposit, and you may the other £30 when you get the game, so I guess it's worth it if you haven't pre-ordered. I suppose the same offer is available in all UK HMVs but I'm not sure.

Win a T-Shirt - Daniel
WW Underground are holding a cool competition:
All you have to do is to submit the worst accident that can happen to Tiberian Sun from now till August 27th, but, it has to be a funny one. Top ten most hilarious ones will be posted on WWU and the best one's creator will win a T-Shirt of NOD or GDI (He/She can choose!).
Send your entries here.
TS in Canada - Daniel
Tanksman from The Real TS Site visited his local Electronic Boutique store in Vancouver, Canada and found out some interesting stuff:
The things I quickly looked for when I was at EB was anything related to Tiberian Sun. It took me less than half a second, then I saw TS boxes sitting on a colorful display stand. I quickly ran over to the stand and picked up one of the boxes. It was empty (duh...) but I can already feel the power of the game blasting in my mind. It was a normal edition TS box, with a flip-open cover, which looks like this picture but with a "coming soon" logo. I stared at the box for new info but didn't find much. Inside the cover, there were GDI and NOD unit pictures, quotes from magazines, and game descriptions. In general, the box looked so damn good I thought I was already playing the game! :)
If you're from Canada, read more at The Real TS Site.
First NOX Preview - Daniel
NOX is a Diablo-style RPG Adventure Game from Westwood. It's due out in Winter 1999 (that's what WW say!) Anyway, Gamecenter have previewed the game. You can read all about it here.
Whole Prima Hintbook - Daniel
CnC Realm has made a program which allows you to look through every page of Prima's Official TS Hintbook.
TS Action Figures! - Daniel
TS Den received this info:
There's rumored that Electronic Arts, Westwood's parent company, is considering releasing other action figures from the CnC universe. I mean, wouldn't it be cool to have GDI and NOD figures lined up on your desk? If Blizzard can make action figures from their Starcraft and Warcraft games, then why not Give us Tiberian Sun action figures
I want some! Quickly, EA, get on with it!
GENCON 99 Review - Daniel
[e-3n], who just joined BG:TS went to GENCON '99 on Friday, and has written quite a big review of the event, Westwood's involvement and Tiberian Sun:
At the expo, I was fortunate enough to play Tiberian Sun. I played the first level on the GDI side and played GDI in the tournament. The Jump Jet Infantry were odd. They looked like they had wings and reminded me of a bat somehow. The infantry were also hard to get used to from the common rifle infantry from Red Alert. The infantry looked more rounded, walked more life like and had better replies than just yes sir. Titans and Infantry were used as a primary force for attacking. The power turbines proved very useful for saving space rather than building another power planet everytime you need more power. I was also able to build a MM2 and I was quite impressed. It walked like an AT-AT from Star Wars, but more flexible and much much more powerful. Sadly, my MM2 was destroyed within minutes after a rush of orcas, infantry and titans.
Take a look at more GENCON info at BG:TS.
Fan Fiction - Daniel
Christopher Warsh has sent an excellent news story into BG:TS:
NOD forces surround San Antonio

In an effort to take back what were once NOD strongholds, a division of armored vehicles and a battalion of assorted troops have taken most of southern Texas and surrounded the GDI fortifications at San Antonio. Although most supply routes have been blocked or are under constant attack, the Super Tunnel that was just recently finished has been supplying the city with uninterrupted food, fuel, and reinforcements.

Also, during the night, a squad of Orca Personnel Carriers began evacuating civilians and some Carry-All's have brought in Emergency Services and taken out key items of cultural, scientific, and economical value to an undisclosed location north of Dallas.

Read the rest at BG:TS.
Site News - Daniel
Tiberian Explosion is back up! (Mostly) Since the change of hosts to TS Nation is taking so long, I have uploaded most of the site to a temporary server. Due to limits in disk space, some of the files and images section hasn't been uploaded, but everything else is here!
Be sure to check out the improved units and structures sections, which now has 196 images!! Over the next few weeks a lot of content will be updated on the site, and more images will be added to the images section.
And of course, we'll move to TS Nation, eventually. Any help with the site would be appreciated!
Tiberian Sun and Starcraft - Daniel
TiberianSun.de made this table comparing the two games, which was translated by BG:TS:
TS & SC Comparison
Actually, I think Starcraft had 36 missions. TS still has more though! (And it's better).
