Interview with Rade
Soulkrusher from TiberiumSun.com and two of his friends, Pap and Andrew-SG had in interview with Rade:
Pap: Ugh..how old are you? 23? 40? 150?
Rade: Actually I was 216, but after messing around with a chronosphere, I turned out to be 24.

Andrew-SG: So is the current release date still 1st quarter or has it changed again?
Rade: At the moment its 1st quarter, were working our butts off to get it done

Andrew-SG: There has been talk about a large "Mech" is this really a unit?
Rade: No theres no large "Mech"

SoulKrusher: Hey Rade. Have you guys decided on a name for the medium mech yet? If not, what were some of the names that were suggested?
Rade: We haven't settled on one yet and the names we've come up with so far aren't worth repeating, sorry. :(

SoulKrusher: Erik told us the Mammoth Tank Mark II is a GDI unit now. How have you changed it so its not an 'All round' unit? I understand that was the main reason you were not going to have the mammoth in TS in the first place.
Rade: By all around I assume you mean is it going to be the one and only unit everyone will build. The answer to this is no, if it is the only unit you build you will definitely not win a game unless your opponent is brain dead.

SoulKrusher: Okay. Erik told us in the chat that you would play as yourself on some missions. What weapons do 'I' use?
Rade: It's a type of automatic pistol.

Erik Yeo Chat
Oliver from TiberiumSun.com had a chat with Erik Yeo on Monday. Lots of info about units was revealed including the fact that the Mammath Mark II is a GDI weapon! Click here to read the rest.
Game Information
Here is some new info from TSCC.
  • Not all civilian/forgotten buildings are just decoration. There are some mission specific buildings that are actually a part of the mission.
  • Another neat effect in Tiberian Sun is "Alpha Channel Effects". That is a shape that adds or subtracts light. For example, the closer you get to a crashed alien ship the darker it gets. Another example is the lens flare on the light posts.
  • In a later GDI mission, Nod is flying the alien craft (Banshee) and it is knocked down in an Ion storm. It then becomes your job to go and intercept them.
Animated Screenshot
Elixinder from TiberiumSun.com has made a fake screenshot of some GDI disk throwers attacking a NOD base. The file is just 166K. Click here to download.
New Video
The next preview video will feature the NOD banshee and contain a lot of in-game screenshots
Rade Interviews
Since December 16, Battleground: Tiberian Sun, RSN, Tiberian Sun Command, The Tiberian Sun Galaxy and TSCC again have all asked Rade some questions. Here you go:
Gunfire (BG:TS): Do civilian buildings have animation, or do they just stand still?
Rade: Most civilian buildings don't have animation but all GDI and Nod ones do.

Gunfire: Will TS support mouse wheels?
Rade: Interesting you should ask that. We're looking into supporting mouse wheels but don't know for sure if we will do it.

Gunfire: Are there plans for a DVD release?
Rade: We're prepared for it.

Gunfire: Are units that are underground at the time of an ION storm affected in any way?
Rade: No.

Hitmann (BG:TS): Will infantry be able to fire while moving? Ie firing from the hip. If that feature is not in the game did you ever consider implementing it?
Rade: No they can't. I don't know if it was considered or not, the decision was made before I was on the project.

SoulKrusher (RSN): Hi. I was wondering if the GDI firestorm defence would protect a high-tech unit in an ion storm?
Rade: No, because the Firestorm Defense doesn't work in an Ion Storm.

Calleth (TS Command): I read in an old PC Gamer (Swedish Version) that the online gaming system would be more and more integrated into the game. Will Westwood host tournaments and special events?
Rade: The on-line component of Tiberian Sun will be fully integrated into the the TS executable. Westwood will host tournaments and special events.

Calleth: Will all that tweaking and testing time have any result or will we see updates all the time like with Quake2? Or will the game be finished when it is released?
Rade: We are not planning on doing any updates after release.

Calleth: Will the game be user modifiable? Like that you could change sounds and stuff?
Rade: I don't know for sure yet.

Feuer (TS Galaxy): Westwood said in several interviews that it's possible, that forests catch fire and even burn down. Is there any chance to extinguish the fire (for example: The CarryAll takes water from a lake and extinguishes the fire with it.)??
Rade: If one of your structures is on fire you can always repair it and the fire will go out. If it is something else just sit back and enjoy the show.

Ramrac (BGTS again): Jump Jet Infantry; when they are in the air, do they keep hanging for some time or do they "bounce"?
Rade: They fly.

Ramrac: Will GDI have any real tanks beside the Disruptor?
Rade: Yes, there's the Mammoth Mark II.

Computer Problems...
Sorry I haven't updated for a long time. My computer was broken and my modem was refusing to function correctly.

New C&C Game
Westwood are currently creating a 3rd person action/strategy game called C&C:Commandos. It is set in the C&C Universe and will star Tanya. Don't get your hopes up though, it won't arrive until late next year (Christmas 99).
Infantry on fire!
I'm not sure if this information's true but in Tiberian Sun, when infantry are caught on fire, they will apparently run around frantically and if they bump into a tree, start a forest fire. This could be an interesting tactic: set forests alight and burn the enemy! Thanks to TSCC for this information.

Thanks to TiberiumSun.com and RSN for this image.
Site News
I'll be updating the wallpapers, units and structures section in the next week or two. I might also update the layout of my page. Please email me to tell me what you think of my layout (and be honest) or give me suggestions.
Also: tommorow, I'll be posting some info on all the RTS games coming out next year! (including Dark Reign 2)
C&C Games
We're all dissapointed that Tiberian Sun won't be available for Xmas but luckily, Westwood have compromised. They've released two new games packages:
  • Arsenal (Red Alert and Red Alert: Aftermath)
  • World Wide Warfair (All the C&C Games you can imagine!)
So for a taste of Tiberian Sun, go out there and experience the original C&C and Red Alert.

Dark Reign 2
I know this isn't TS news but it is realtime strategy. Dark Reign was released earlier this year, just before Total Annihilation, which obviously overwhelmed it. However, Dark Reign 2 should be much more successful next summer. It features a Pandemic's amazing new 3D engine and will be far more involving than current RTS games. You'll be able to command the war from an top-down, overhead viewpoint but also zoom in to control the unit of your choice. It will have differing weather conditions, day and night and amazing new lighting effects. There will be more multiplayer options and enhanced Artificial Intelligence. Above all it looks stunning!
Weather
Originally, TS was going to have rain, fog and clouds but sadly these effects have been cancelled. We'll still have the Ion Storm though!
NEW VIDEO
Westwood will soon be releasing a new video featuring the NOD Banshee. At last we will see what the mysterious weapons on the Banshee are. The new video will be on their official site - TiberianSun.com. The new Tiberian Sun site, currently GDI-orientated, will also feature some info on The Brotherhood of NOD.
Rade Interview...Again
Battleground: Tiberian Sun asked Rade a few questions:
Gunfire: What does it look like if the Amphibious APC gets killed in water? Does it explode, or does it sink? (or both? :))
Rade: It explodes.

Gunfire: Aircraft intelligence: do orca's fly past their target if it is moving (like in C&C Tib.Dawn, where your orcas never shot moving units, but instead just flew behind them, not catching up enough to fire until the unit stopped)?
Rade: ORCAs can hit moving targets.

Gunfire: I just want to make sure, all the release dates that the stores are advertising (March 30) are not endorsed by WW, right?
Rade: Our goal is to finish the game well before that date.

Gamestar Interview
Tiberian.com got this interview from GameStar Magazine:
GameStar: More and more modern Strategy-games use 3D-cards. Do you also have plans like that for C&C: TS?
Erik Yeo: No. AGP and MMX will increase the performance. It's not necessary shelling out much money for a 3D-Card, our Voxel-Technology is awesome.

GameStar: Are some of the new things in TS based on suggestions made by fans?
Erik Yeo: Indirectly. Some of them wanted to have infantry-units that are able to climb steep cliffs and precipice. Thatinspired me to introduce the jumpjet-infantry. They can jump over obstacles using their jetpack. Besides the popular Mammoth-tank returned because many gamers wanted to have it, even though we had not planned to use it at the beginning.

GameStar: We have been told that the technology of the NOD scrin-fighter is from extraterrestrical lifeforms - is Kane being controlled by the aliens?
Erik Yeo: I can't say anything about that without telling half of the story. Let's say it this way: Aliens will make an appearance

Another Infantry Question
Gunfire: I know you are still balancing this, but tell me your concept: will infantry be still less affected by missiles and tank fire but more affected by gunfire? And vice versa with the armored units?
Erik: Yes, that's one of the major design prinicples behind TS and it helps to keep infantry alive. :) I know it's not terribly realistic, but gameplay and fun take precdence over realism.

Erik on Infantry
Battleground: Tiberian Sun had a short interview with Erik Yeo:
Gunfire : I know you are still balancing this, but tell me your concept: will infantry be still less affected by missiles and tank fire but more affected by gunfire? And vice versa with the armored units?
Erik : Yes, that's one of the major design prinicples behind TS and it helps to keep infantry alive. :) I know it's not terribly realistic, but gameplay and fun take precdence over realism.
