And some more.. - Daniel
Info from Aaron. TS Center have asked him some questions (submitted by fans) and will post them over a few days. Here are the first two:
Lionel: When allied with another player, will you be able to move each others units and/or build/use their structures.
Aaron: No. You are still commanding your army, and only your army.

Lionel: How do you control the Nod units that go underground once there underground?
Aaron: You can band select them, or group select them, while they are under. Best thing to do is assign them to a group (CTRL+1 thru 5). Then, if you want to change their orders, just select them. (press 1 for group 1). Make sense?

Get the rest at TS Center. And they'll have three more available tommorow.
NEW NEW NEW Info - Daniel
General Sheppard from BG:TS asked Aaron Cohen some questions on the game:
Gen. Sheppard: We all know the Mammoth Mark 2 is huge, but exactly how big? For instance, if TS's engine were still tile-based, how many tiles would it fill?
Aaron: Hmmmmmmm. It would be about five stories high in real life. In the CG, it is incredibly large. In the game, the proportions aren't exact, but it takes up four or five tiles.

Gen. Sheppard: How is the integration of WW Chat being handled in TS? Is it going to be more like Blizzard's Battle.net?
Aaron: It will be fully integrated into the game, like Battle.net.

Gen. Sheppard: Feel free to give any other tasty bits of info! =)
Aaron: The most important thing I can say is that it will be out late this summer.
Aaron: Other than that, I can say that it's an incredible game. I've been able to play the alpha of the release version now for a couple months and it is awesome. I can't wait for the guys in development to finish up.
Aaron: A few fav things...linking waypoints, blowing up bridges, stealth generators, cracking ice, wild mutated animals, tunneling units, armed civilians, veterancy.
Aaron: So much that's new, and yet it's still the C&C I know and love. Brings a tear to my eye.

WOW! The Mammoth Mark II takes up 4-5 tiles, that's massive! No wonder it's only available in certain missions. Wil mutated animals sounds fun too! Can't wait until the summer!
IGN Preview Update (again) - Daniel
IGN PC have enlarged their preview again. This time with loads more info on Nod structures. Here is an excerpt:
Missile Silo
Obviously, this is the building used to control the launch of Nod's missile weapons. The first type is the Multi-Missile Warhead, a terrifying armament that splits into several smaller rockets over its intended taget and rains fiery death on everything below. The other missile type is the dreaded Chemical Missile, made from mulch refined by the Tiberium Waste Facility. On impact, the warhead starts a new growth of the super tough Tiberium in veins spreading out from the impact point. Nothing can ever be built on these land areas again. As if that wasn't bad enough, if the spread isn't checked, there's a chance that something called a Vein Monster will be created. These monsters attack everything within their area and are really hard to get rid of. No wonder GDI Commanders flinch every time they even hear this weapon mentioned...

Laser Fence
This is a really nasty force wall that cannot be broken down by conventional means. The only way to drop one of these babies is to either cut off its power source or by destroying one of its fence posts. It does have one limitation in that it can only be build facing one of the four cardinal directions. Big deal. Your opponent still can't get in...

Heliport Pad
Just like the Orca Pad for the GDI, the Heliport pad allows air attack units to land and refuel. Other than that, it's just a big ol' piece of flat land.

Tiberium Waste Facility
This is a specialized Tiberium Refinery (available only to Nod) that collects the mulch produced by the Nod Weed Eaters (see the Brotherhood Units list for more info). It takes this highly volatile mulch and uses it to produce Chemical Missiles, a really nasty weapon.

That's only a tiny snippit of what they've got. For all the other structures, click here now! Be warned though, some of the info is incorrect. The guy who wrote it has made some of it up and obviously hasn't played C&C much, or read the rest of IGN's review. So don't believe everything he says, some of it is just used to bulk out the review!
SC3K Site TS Contest - Daniel
This is concerning the news on Sunday about winning TS from the Simcity 3000 web site. I should have mentioned that you are only eligible to win if you live in the USA or Canada. I am really annoyed at this, cos it was the same with the other Simcity competition which I spent ages on (designing NY City), then couldn't enter. It really sucks!
Q&A from TiberianSun.de - Daniel
TiberianSun.de have had a chat with Chris Rubyor. Here it is, translated by BG:TS from German:
Alex: On the past screen shots, the Mammoth Mark II was red. Does it belong to NOD?
Chris: The MM II was not ever shown, what you saw was the NOD version of the original giant.

Alex: On the new screenshot, one can see buildings from C&C 1. Is it possible to build it? And why did Westwood build it into TS?
Chris: Unfortunately they are functionally useless. The buildings are to be there to bring a flair of the past into the play.

Alex: On the same screenshots there are a few small vehicles. They seem to be transporting something from the buildings. Is that correct?
Chris: Yes, they transport some extremely important artifacts.

Alex: On another new screenshot, pyramids are seen. Does this scene play in Egypt? Before it was said that Tiberium couldn't spread in the desert.
Chris: NOD likes pyramids and fights with the GDI in each angle of the earth. Tiberium grows everywhere. In life-hostile environments like the desert, it simply grows more slowly.

Here are the screenshots mentioned:

Gamestar Video Rights - Daniel
TiberiumSun.com recently got their hands on the video and compressed it, offering a smaller version to download for free on their site. However, Gamestar are not happy about all these sites offering the video on servers. This e-mail was sent out:
He furthermore said that he is unhappy about all sites that ripped of the video and wants that these sites delete the video and do NOT offer it for download. Because of lack of time he said I shall send out this message to you guys before their lawyers will start working. So please delete the gamestar video from your servers is you do not have the official permission by GameStar, Germany (no site had permission when I phoned them).
However, BG:TS do not think they will take legal action because:
  • Gamestar did not have an agreement with WW to be the only people videoing at E3.
  • They offered the video 'free', as they describe the cover CD as free.
  • 99 percent of the people downloading the video wouldn't have bought Gamestar if they couldn't get the movie elsewhere.
  • The costs of actually taking action would be counterproductive plus bad publicity.
  • And for the above reasons, they almost certainly couldn't persuade our servers to take us offline.
So it looks like the videos should stay online. Hopefully!
Also, you can download a smaller version of the video from Gamestar's web site, by shift-clicking here. The video is just 1.7Mb, but is shorter, although it is good quality.
Massive Links Update - Daniel
Just finished updating the layout of our links section, and it looks much better now. Easier to find what you want too. There are already loads of cool links in there, and many more coming soon. In a few days, I'll have finished looking at some more sites, so they'll be even more links available.
Take a look!
If you have a TS, C&C, Red Alert, RTS or Gaming web site, or know of a cool one not in my links, please click here!
Yeahhhhhhhh! - Daniel
I just spent $280 upgrading my computer! 400Mhz!!!!!! Yeahhh! Sorry about that, but I just had to tell everyone! Anyway, this means I'll have to spend a few days setting it up and trying to get it to work, so will not be able to update this site until about Saturday.

Mailing List Problems - Daniel
As you already know, I changed my e-mail address a few days ago, as my dad changed ISPs without telling me. This cut me off from the internet for a few days and didn't give me time to set up a new e-mail address properly. Because of this, all the people who have joined the mailing list within the last few days will have to resubscribe as the request was sent to my old e-mail address. E-mail me if you experience any problems. The next newsletter will be sent out next week. Sorry for any inconvenience.

IGN Preview Updated - Daniel
IGN PC have updated there Tiberian Sun preview. They have some new information on the GDI structures. Here is a sample:
Communications Tower:
Once you get this building up and running, you'll get access to a radar screen that will keep you abreast of enemy presence within range of the center. While this is a lot like the Comm. Center in Command & Conquer, this time around you'll be able to add modules onto the basic structure to add new functionality. Here's the two upgrades that we know about so far...

Threat Evaluation System:
This add-on to the Communications Tower will figure out what attacking force is the most dangerous during an assault on your base. Once it has determined the most serious threat, it will automatically use your existing base defenses to try and eliminate it first.

Ion Control/ SAT Uplink:
This is a special control system designed to handle any satellites that you have managed to put in orbit. The first type is the ION Cannon, which works much as it did in C&C, blowing the crap out of anything below it once it gets charged up. The other satellite is the Planetary Camera, which also has to charge up, but instead of destroying what's below it blindly, takes a detailed 15X15 cell shot of any area of the map. This gives you an amazing ability to pinpoint exactly where your enemy is and what he's doing.

Thanks to TS Nation for this news.
Cyborg Confusion - Daniel
TS Center have finally concluded what the difference between Cyborg Commandos and Cyborg infantry are. Bedta Squadren Page had an interview with Adam Isgreen:
Taz[bS]: Is this the cyborg infantry?
Adam: No, that's something else....
So that must be the cyborg commando, just as this is:

Therefore these two pics must be of the Nod Cyborg infantry:
Personally, I think that both units are the Cyborg infantry, and they changed their mind about including Cyborg Commandos in the game too. For more info, check out the infantry units section

Characters Update - Daniel
I've updated the GDI and Nod characters sections now, with some new info and images. Check them out here and here.
New Structures - Daniel
Shadow from TS Nation has discovered some information about two new buildings:
Technology Research Center
You won't be able to build the more advanced structures in the game straight out of the gate. First you'll need to construct one of these science centers that will in turn give you the know-how necessary to construct buildings that require more advanced tech.

Equipment Transport Bay
One great thing about being in the GDI is that you won't always have to build everything for yourself. Once you've built one of these landing bays, you'll be able to directly order units from home base, which will be carried in by giant dropships. This can really save your ass when the fighting is getting tight and you have more money than military power.

Ion Cannon Screenshot - Daniel
TS4Ever have posted this picture of an 'Ion Storm'. But it's really an Ion Cannon (the guy's turned the cheat on). Just look at the craters it leaves (click on image for larger version):

I know this is getting boring, but... - Daniel
We now have some more confirmation of the August 25th Release Date, this time from EBWorld.com. Just thought you might like to know!
TiberianSun.com Update - Daniel
The Official TS Site has been updated with a new story. Here's an exerpt:
Mounting GDI forces aim to ensure safe evacuation.

Talks aimed at ending the conflict between Nod forces and Civilians broke down early today after Nod officers balked at GDI's demands and failed to return for a late-night session.

"The Nod delegation has presented a proposal that would not provide a safe return of the Tiberium poisoned civilians and full withdrawal of Nod forces from all European cities," Lt. General David Greenshaw the leader of the GDI military delegation, said in Sarajevo earlier today."

New Screenshots - Daniel
Tiberian Zone have taken some new TS screenshots from the Gamestar video. Go to their site to download them.
Platinum Edition - Daniel
AnimeGuy99 e-mailed TiberianSun.net.nz about the TS Platinum edition. Apparently, this will be released before the normal edition, and will cost $59.99. It will include a limited edition soundtrack, figurine and special manual. It sounds pretty cool, but is really just a way to force people to pay more for the game. But not if you pre-order for only $49.99
Tiberian Sun Cheats - Daniel
Tiberium33 from Tiberian Zone asked Rade an interesting question:
Captain Zero: In the new Gamestar video, it shows a guy building infantry and after he builds one, the rocket infantry and cyborg appear on the sidebar. Is this some sort of bug, placement art, or something like that? Rade: No, whoever was doing the demo probably cheated to get the build options.
This suggests that there will be cheats included in the game, but...
The Official word on this has been that they have put the cheats in to make testing the game easier. It will help them find bugs and the cheats will be removed before the game ships. This practice is very common in game development. So don't worry, there will be NO cheats!
EVA Sounds - Daniel
TiberiumSun.com have a wave file of the Electronic Video Agent from Tiberian Sun. Go to their site to download it.
Zoom Function In or Out? - Daniel
TiberiumSun.com asked Virtual Ted this question:
TiBeRi0-TEF: Recently while watching the movie called 'violent', i noticed that one person, while playing TS, was zooming into the Battle-Field. I thought that this feature was canned, or am i just seeing things?
Virtual Ted: Not sure if they will leave it in there or not. We'll see.
Official Nod Web Site - Daniel
RSN have asked Virtual Ted about this possibility:
RSN: Is there by any chance going to be a Nod site like the Gdi Official Tiberian Sun site you have now?
Virtual Ted: Hmm...maybe!

Invisible Blue Light Post? - Daniel
Jaguar from TiberianSun.net.nz noticed this in an RSN screenshot from the Gamestar video:
Click for a larger version
Click for a larger Version
I've now enhanced the image slightly. As you can see (maybe), the cursor is over a seemingly empty patch of concrete and there is a pop-up saying: "Invisible Blue Light Post". What is it on about? Ideas, mail me!
Unit Queing - Daniel
We have a screenshot! Kwistatz sent the following image to TiberiumSun.com. As you can see, there is a small number in the upper left hand corner which shows how many of that unit are in the queue to be built. I wonder if you can queue multiple unit types? And how would that work? Hmmmm. Well, here's the pic:
Mobile Construction Vehicle - Daniel
Tiberium33 from Tiberian Zone has made this cool little animation:
Cool, isn't it?
It does look ridiculous, doesn't it? All that fitting into a tiny little vehicle! Still, it's a good animation.
So that's how waypoints work... - Daniel
RSN had a quick chat with Aaron Cohen and he explained the waypoint system in Tiberian Sun:
Aaron: It is a persistant and flexible way point system. Persistant means when you put down a route, it stays there. You can use it for any troop you have. It is flexible in that you can move or edit the waypoints in any given system. Each set of waypoints are color coded. When I play I like to set up exploration routes and attack routes. Thanks to color coding, I know which is which. For the exploration routes, I'll tell my troops to just move, so they will not return fire or engage the enemy. For my attack routes, I use the hot key guard command, which tells my troops to follow a set of waypoints and engage any enemy they see. Also, a waypoint system may be linked, so you have a circular patrol route. Mostly, you'll have them circling your base or perhaps checking various choke points. Does all that make sense?
Rade Interview - Daniel
Hamma's TS Site had an interview with Rade. Here's one of the questions:
Royalty: Hows Ts looking?? Could you give me the month you think?? Rade: The game is really looking good. We'll be going gold pretty soon and we will announce it on the Westwood web site. Keep in mind that it will take a little while for it to hit the shelves once it has gone gold.
