Map Generator - Daniel |
Lionel, from TS Center asked Rade the following question, regarding the random map generator:
Lionel: Ok then. How does the RMG (Random Map Generator)
function?
Rade: You set a series of parameters, such as terrain type,
ruggedness, height variation, size, etc. and it creates a randomly
generated map. Or you can just let it create something totally at
random without having to mess with any settings at all. You can
save your favorite maps and trade them among your friends.

Site Promotion in Tiberian Sun - Daniel |
Westwood are going to promote the five best Tiberian Sun web sites on the actual Tiberian Sun CD. The sites must be updated regularly with correct information, mustn't have bad links, and must be faithful to Westwood. |
Recoil Released! - Daniel |
Westwood's 3D Action game, Recoil, has been released! Check out the official site here. There is also a good review at The Adrenaline Vault. Within the next month, I'll post some more information on this cool new game. Here's a screenshot:

Multiplayer TS Question - Alex |
Leephus of TSCC asked Virtual Ted the following question about TS Multiplayer:
Leephus: When playing over the Internet, will a
player using a fast connection such as ISDN
experience higher latency while playing an opponent
with a slower connection than if they are playing an
opponent using a similarly fast connection, or is
latency solely based on how fast your connection is
(like in Quakeworld / Quake2)?
Virtual Ted: Tiberian Sun connects the players
together after the game has begun, and the server
steps out of the way to allow the fastest possible
gameplay. Therefore, the latency is based on the
speed of the connection between players and the
computer speed.
Unofficial Interview - Alex |
Lionel from TS Center had an interview with Shadow from TS Nation (currently down due to technical difficulties). Shadow had long, unposted, interviews with Rade from Westwood, so he knows a lot about the game.
Lionel: Is the June release date announced by Aaron Cohen true?
Shadow: The release date is true....mid summer April-June.
Lionel: Why is the Tiberium Cleaner needed to clear tiberium when
there is a harvester to harvest it which gives u cash too
Shadow: the reason why there is a tiberian cleaner and eater is
that there are 3 types of tiberium: blue, green and a tiberium vein
that spreads quickly. That's why those units are needed
Lionel: would there be any chances that ts might be editable like
red alert?
Shadow: no...all the files are designed so that one can access
them. They fall under a different format now, instead of .mix files
and rqx files.
Lionel: Will a map/campaign editor will ever be created for ts too?
Shadow: RMG: Random Map Generator.

CGG Articles - Alex |
Kursah from CGG made two great articles. The first one is called "Will TS Be Worth It" and, obviously, is about the Release Date delays and other RTS games like Dark Reign 2 and TA:Kingdoms. The other one, "Voxels vs Polygons", lists the advantages and disadvantages of Voxels and Polygons. Both are excellent articles, so make sure to check them out!
| TS Webmaster Channel - Alex |
Westwood Studios have made it up to all of us by making a
Webmasters Only Channel in Westwood Online. This will be a
great oppontunity for all budding webmasters out there to exchange
ideas in this new channel. Channel coming soon......

Another Review - Alex |
U-Games posted a review of Tiberian Sun that is very in-depth. It is 8 pages (A4) long, features many pictures (no new ones though), and is well written. To read it, head over to U-games! |
Upgrade Question - Alex |
Bounty from Rising Sun Network asked Rade the following question concerning how to place upgrades:
Bounty: Concerning the sidebar and upgrade selection, how are we
going to select the upgrades to each structure/unit etc. ?
Rade: Think of them as just another building. Click to build, but you
have to place them on upgradable structures instead of the ground.
TS Box Picture - Alex |
Tiberiumsun.com posted the official German Box Cover. It is actually not new, but now the EA logo is included. Click here to grab it!

Multiplayer - Daniel |
Obsidian (from TCC) asked Virtual Ted the following question:
Obsidian: How many players willbe able to play over the internet, and over a local
network? A first we were hearing rumors of 8, then someone said because of lag they
went down to 6; how many can play over the net as of now?
VT: We might bump it up to 8 as an option for those people with really fast connections.
Even for slow connections, 8 players may be playable, but mightnot provide the gaming
experience we think is acceptable for a multiplayer game. For LAN games, I think we're
still set at 8.
Eight or six are still much better than Command and Conquer and Red Alert which only allowed for one-on-one play. Even the new RA patch only supports four players so Tiberian Sun will be a huge improvement on the multiplayer front. |
Westwood's New Game - Nox - Daniel |
Westwood's newest game, called Nox is due to be released 'later this year' (that means next year!). It will be an Action/RPG game which uses a top-down viewpoint. The game is based on magic, combat and danger and will feature true line of site which should add to the combat. |
Aaron Cohen Replies to Release Date - Alex |
Gladiator from TCC received a reply to an e-mail he sent to Aaron Cohen at Westwood concerning the delayed release date.
There's not going to be an official statement, at least not for a week or so.
But it's true, the release date is now early summer. We need the time to play balance and polish. Sorry for the delay.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Thanks!
Aaron
Another Secret Westwood Document - Alex |
UGN3D have found another secret document on the Westwood FTP. It is the marketing plan for Germany, although quite outdated (reporting release date as March 23rd). You can download the PowerPoint file here (Tiberiansun.net.nz's server.) If you don't have PowerPoint, click here to download Microsoft's PowerPoint Viewer.
I wonder why Westwood leaves such files on their FTP server, is the file too old and not accurate anymore so they didn't care, or was it an accident, or do they want us to know?? Thoughts? Comments? Email me!

Release Date Confirmation - Alex |
Several TS websites received a mail from Virtual Ted at Westwood. Here is what he basically said:
He is estimating early to mid summer as Release Date
There will be a conference with Erik Yeo and webmasters about the details, most likely held on March 26th
Yeo will promote 5 websites in the games; Ted doesn't know what he exactly meant, but Erik will explain that in the conference. They will choose the 5 best sites
The game is very close to be finished so that he has to start evaluating sites on March 15th
|
As he says that the game is very close to be finished, but contradictly also says he expects early to mid summer, he mailed BG:TS again:
They are very close to drawing a line in the sand for adding new graphics, sounds, options etc
After that, they are going into "tweak" mode where Ted considers the game done but they still have to balance and bugfix the game
|
So now our last hopes for a release in Q1/99 are crushed. I just hope Tiberian Explosion will be promoted in the game 8) |

Official Release Date - Alex |
Over at PC Fan I noticed that they received an official word from Westwood:
Tiberian Sun will be delayed to early Summer '99. We are in the process
of fine tuning the engine, balancing the units, and enhancing our
multiplay internet code. This hold up is to make sure Tiberian Sun will
deliver the gaming experience our fans have been craving.
Well I think we all expected it, didn't we? |
