The First Tiberium War - Daniel
TS Center are planning a huge clan war as soon as Tiberian Sun comes out. Also, there may be prizes from Westwood themselves in the competition! Here is the information they released:
The prizes will be T-Shirts (with either the GDI or NOD logo) for the top 4 finishing teams. We are requesting compliance with VT for him to give us some discounts on prizes (if he approves this there will possibly be more prizes), to help us with publicity, and to have the WW TS staff autograph the T-Shirts.
They sound like cool prizes, and this will be the first big event after the game is released. If you have a clan, or you want to start one, and join the tournament, you can get more information here and enter the contest here.
More Virtual Ted Questions - Daniel
Bounty from RSN asked Virtual Ted another question, about TS clans:
Bounty: With the clan feature at Westwood Online, will you be able to find a list of clans and look at their stats/wins/losses?
Virtual Ted: Yes. It will have all the stats needed to rank clans against one another.
And another question:
Bounty: Can you give us a description of the layout of the Tiberian Sun multiplayer client? (colors, graphics etc.)
Virtual Ted: Still being developed.
News on the next Trailer - Daniel
You may remember that a few months ago Westwood were promising another TS trailer, featuring the NOD Banshee. It was due out at Christmas, but got delayed. GenKiller from TiberianSun.net.nz asked Virtual Ted about it:
GenKiller: VT, remember the Nod Banshee Trailor that was suppose to be released at Christmas? What happened to it??
VirtualTed: I believe that it was put on hold. However, Erik is working on it again.
TiberiumSun.com win! - Daniel
Well, the first award from Westwood has now been announced. (In case you've missed the last few weeks, Westwood are choosing the five best TS sites who will be credited in the game). Here is the message from Virtual Ted:
This message is to announce the first winner in the Tiberian Sun contest. Today, we selected the site with the most activity. That site *had* to be TiberiumSun.com. Over the past year, Tiberium Sun has registered over 1,000,000 hits, and has certainly been a cornerstone in the evolution of the Tiberian Sun community. Our congratulations to Felix and his staff! Tomorrow [Tuesday] we award the site with the best graphics... Stay tuned, and stay updated!
Congratulations to TiberiumSun.com and all the staff! btw, the Graphics and technical awards will actually be given out tommorow (1st April)

PC Fan looks @ TS - Alex
Over at the gaming site PC Fan I noticed that they played the latest version of the game. Here is what they think about it:
Well, we had a chance to see the latest version of Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun over the weekend and it's looking better than ever. New things that caught my eye were the GDI radar stations that detect underground movement. When you click on the unit, you'll actually be able to see the radius of the radar's detection grid as a needle circles around the perimeter searching for burrowing units.

Other cool units shown were the three commandos (one has a cool railgun) and the mech/AT-AT Walker GDI unit known as the Mammoth Mark II! Everyone at PC Fan is very excited over this game (and Nox) and according to Westwood, expect it to ship by July or August.

Lifetime Achievement Award - Daniel
At the Computer Game Developer's Conference, Louis Castle, Executive Vice President of Westwood Studios, won the 'Lifetime Achievement Award'. He started Westwood in 1985 and has been involved in games such as: 'The Eye of the Beholder' and 'Lands of Lore' fantasy games, 'The Kyrandia Adventures', and of course, the 'Command & Conquer' strategy games.
More Music - Daniel
Frank Klepacki makes all the music for Westwood games and has made some excellent soundtracks for games such as Command & Conquer, Red Alert, Dune 2000 and the Lands of Lore series. But he doesn't just make music for games... CGG have found some more music by him, which you can download here.
TS Nearly finished! - Daniel
At last! Some good news on the release date! Obsidian from TSCC had a chat with XFMulder, an EA employee, and revealed the following information:
  • Release Date: 2nd or 3rd week of June
  • Game 90% Finished
  • In-house beta in about 6-8 weeks (not public)
  • PR guys will release some good stuff in 2-3 weeks
And on the game...
  • Gdi base defences will be greatly enhanced by the use of Walls, Lights and Vulcan-Cannons when playing at night.
  • The lights will track enemies, and order guns to fire, unless the enemy goes out of range.
Site News - Daniel
There is now a new and improved files section on this site with 39 downloads! Also, the images section has finally been fixed and now includes over 100 images! There are 43 in-game screenshots and 43 wallpapers as well as many other images taken from video footage and magazines!

MeccaWorld Preview - Daniel
MeccaWorld have a new TS preview which mentions a June 16th release date. It's pretty good, not very detailed, but covers all the main improvements Tiberian Sun will feature. Click here to read it.
Release Date - Daniel
Lionel from TS Center asked Virtual Ted the following question about the release date:
Lionel: EB world had set the release date of TS as June 16th, which was claimed to be obtained from the manufacturers (Westwood/EA). Is that date true in anyway?
Virtual Ted: I will say that the June date is probably someone's best guess. I would suggest "summer" as a better estimate, although if I had to pick a date it would probably be sometime in June.
Huge Chat Log - Daniel
There was recently a giant webmasters chat with Erik Yeo and Virtual Ted. It includes lots and lots of new information. Check out the log here. Thanks to RSN, who now have an excellent new layout, for this log. Here are some of the most interesting parts:
LtWCard01: Besides flame tanks, what other ways can you start infantry and trees on fire?
Erik: There are tons of ways. Flaming debris, meteors, explosions, falling aircraft, lightning strikes, etc...

MadMan47 : You must be playing TS a lot. Can you tell us how much AS.S TS will kick? from 1-10 ... 1 being Outpost2- 10 being TotalAnhilation.
Erik: Hmm. It's starting to feel REALLY good. (Watching ORCAs go spinning out of control and into someones base is good fun.) It's hard to say. TA had a different type of feel. I liked it, but TS is different. I would say 10 in it's own right.

MoDmooshy: Is The Land Like Dune 2000? Or Command and Conquer Land?
Erik: The land is considerably different than either Dune 2000 or C&C. It has it's own physical properties and 3D data.

OMEGAxxxx: Will there be any FlameThrower Units or Chemical Units, excluding the Flame Tank?
Erik: There is a Forgotten Flame Thrower unit right now. She's kinda nasty. We'll see if she survives. There is a chemical missile as well.

Shadow117: Do infantry get poisoned or mutate if they stand in Tiberierium too long
Erik: Infantry get poisoned and die if they stay in Tiberium too long. OCCAISIONALLY something else can happen...

TS better than Star Wars? - Daniel
There is a rumour that James Earl Jones was offered the part of 'Darth Vader' in the new Star Wars movie, but turned it down to play 'General Solomon' in Tiberian Sun! Virtual Ted says: "We're not supposed to talk about that. :D"
MP3s not from Tiberian Sun! - Daniel
It seems the two 'new Tiberian Sun' sound tracks mentioned yesterday were actually false. They were, in fact, from Lands of Lore 3 and have been available to download for quite some time. Cyclone from Tiberian Sun Domination found them on a Tiberian Sun promotional CD from Westwood and therefore assumed they were from the TS soundtrack. Sorry...

New Music - Alex
TS Domination has scored two new Music tracks from Tiberian Sun! Go to their site here and download them!

Rade Interview - Alex
TS Nation is back after technical difficulties. They also have a new layout, but most importantly, they posted a pretty long interview with Rade. Here is the part in which he talks about that mysterious unit (see below):
Shadow: okay Rade, here it is:
Shadow: http://home.att.net/~golden.falcon/Unit/Unkownunit.JPG
Rade: that's a voxel test
Shadow: there is the site of the pic. It was featured in a screenshot in the sidebar of GDI
Rade: That thing is way old.
Shadow: is that the Carryall?
Rade: no
Shadow: oh
